Boston Marathon Results

The Boston Marathon started out as a local event in 1897. Since then, it has expanded drawing first class runners from all over the globe. For the last 20 years or more, Africans have dominated the Boston Marathon results. The official Boston Marathon results indicate that since 1981, predominantly Russians and Africans have won the race. In 2007, for example, Russian racer Lidya Grigoyeva won out over favorite American Deena Castor. She, the number one runner in the world, was trying to be the first American woman to win the race since Lisa Larsen-Weiden had captured the title way back in 1985. The Boston Marathon race results also show that for the period 1946 to 1967, the Finns and Japanese dominated the race. The American women held sway for 1966 to 1974 and again from 1976 to 1979.

The results of the 1986 Boston Marathon featured a Canadian male winner, Andre Viga and a Californian female. Candace Cable-Brookes also won the Boston Marathon for the years 1985 to 1988, inclusive. She also won it during her Nevada residency for the years 1981 and 1982. The 2003 Boston Marathon results also reveal a mixed finish. The male winner was South African, Ernst Van Dyk, who also won the races from 2001 to 2006 inclusive. The female winner was Illinois’ own Christina rip. Another Illinois female also won the race several times. Jean Driscoll won the Boston Marathon from 1990 to 1996 inclusive and, again, in 2000.
