Los Angeles Marathon
The Los Angeles Marathon occurs in March. Following the Los Angeles Summer Olympics in 1984, organizers planned an annual endurance event - the LA Marathon. The inaugural race in 1986 began at just after eight in the morning and runs through the multi-cultural areas of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Marathon route, in the past, took runners from Downtown Los Angeles through Koreatown, through the historic African-American districts of Leimert Park and Crenshaw, along past Rossmore’s wealthy homes and back downtown again. The 2007 L.A. Marathon map shows a different course. The starting point was Universal Studios, Hollywood. The historically significant neighborhoods took a back seat to more identifiable landmarks, although the course did pass through the East Side’s Boyle Heights. The Los Angeles Marathon map for 2007, marking the L.A. Marathon route, indicates a focus on downhill rather than uphill running.
The sponsor of the L.A. Marathon xxii is Honda. Honda has been the sponsor of the Los Angeles Marathon for 12 years. Another sponsor is Banco Popular. The Banco Popular Challenge, established in 2004, allows women to have a head start. The winner of this event receives $100,000.
Runners receive Los Angles Marathon medals after the race. The event and the results are publicized. The 2007 Los Angeles Marathon and television schedule the significant aspects of the events for public consumption. Unfortunately, the media also covers the deaths. Between 1990 and 2006, there were three deaths during the race.

Los Angeles Marathon Results appear on the Los Angeles Marathon web page as well as in the newspapers. The television also announces the L.A. Marathon results. The Los Angeles Marathon xxii results noted Fred Mogaka of Kenya won the male Open with a time of 2:17:14. The female open Los Angeles Marathon winner, for 2007, was Ramilia Burungolova with a time of 2:37:54. Other L.A. Marathon results for the 2007 L.A. Marathon include Masters: Yoshihisaka of Japan and Burungolova, and Wheelchair: Kurt Fearney of Australia and Shelly Woods of the United Kingdom. Los Angeles Marathon winners, traditionally, receives a Honda Accord and $35,000.
The L. A. Marathon does not hold a half-marathon, however, La Jolla does. The La Jolla Hal Marathon runs in April. The course starts at the Del Mar Fairgrounds the winds along the coast to residential La Jolla Shores before ending at La Jolla Cove Park.
