Disney World Marathon

The Disney World Marathon operates under the umbrella of Disney’s Wide World of Sports’ Complex part of Disney World in Orlando Florida. The event runs annually in January. It is part of their World of Disney Marathon Weekend. The Walt Disney World Marathon includes the full marathon as well as well as several other events. These include the Disney Half Marathon, the Family Sun run of 5K, the Family Fun Run Kids’ races and Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge.

The Disney Marathon, in January, has a pre-registration fee of approximately $105. The half marathon costs $95. To register for the Disney Marathon, you must contact them in advance. There is no race day registration. The pre-registry package, picked up at Disney’s Health and Fitness Expo, contains Race Registration Official Race Program, and a commemorative Race Tech Shirt and entry into the Post-Race Celebration and Awards Ceremony. All participants who finish the race receive a finishing medal.

To qualify you have to be 18 years of age or older and able to finish the Marathon in seven hours or less). The awards for the Disney Marathon cover gender, age, wheelchair and military. In 2007, the posted Disney Marathon results noted the winners of the Marathon were Adriano Bastos of Sao Paolo, Brazil and Gabriela Trana of Alajuela, Costa Rica. The wheelchair winners were Renzo Martinez and Kristen Messer. The 2008 Disney Marathon and 2008 Disney Half Marathon will happen on January 13, 2008. The Disney Corporation sponsors another marathon. The Disney Inline Marathon Weekend takes place in the month of April or May. If you look at some 2007 Disney Inline Marathon pictures, you can see the route inline skaters take for this event. The marathon course cuts through both the Disney-MGM studios and the Epcot Center. The skaters start at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex and through a loop circuit return to the finish line at the Sports complex.

The Disney Inline Marathon has several different categories. You can enter, according to qualifications, the Marathon, Half Marathon, Pro, Pro Masters, Military or Half Military sections. To enter, you must be at least 13 years of age. The 2007 Disney Inline Marathon results reveal the oldest male marathon skater was Arnold Overby, age 72. He was beaten by Bert Martin age 71 in the 70 years and older category. The oldest woman and the winner of her category, was Rosalind A. Hauft, age- 64 of Brooklyn Min. These two marathons prove to some individuals that the equation Disney + marathon is a natural combination.
