Runner's World

Runner’s World, published by Rodale, first appeared on the magazine racks in 1966. Its writers and staff members were all runners then and still are now. It is a periodical written by runners for runners. The articles, letters, advice and information are for both serious and casual runners.

Runners World offers readers a variety of well-written articles. In May 2007, for example, the cover story and major articles focused on children, families and running. Two related articles focused on the benefits of running for children and how to help them come to love the sport. Other articles looked at training plans, specific exercises, training tips and workouts. They are all informative, easy to read and helpful.

In addition to basic articles, Runners World magazine provides readers with a sounding off board. There is a letter’s section. You can also ask experts e.g. “Ask Miles” about specific matters related to running and find out about nutrition. Their large staff tries to cover all the issues and questions surrounding the different aspects of running. This includes a personal touch. Kristin Armstrong’s Runner’s World contribution in a “Trail Runners Blog” is about one women’s journey.

Runner’s World Magazine keeps its readers up-to-date on races – both information about upcoming races and data from recent races. There is the “Racing Report, “a column detailing the latest races and results. In December 98, Runners World posted the results of the November 1998 Fall Classic run by Runners World in British Columbia, Canada. There are also feature articles on specific races. In May 2006, the magazine focused on the Comrades Marathon in south Africa, a grueling 55 mile run over hilly or, rather, mountainous, terrain.

Occasionally, Runners World magazine puts out a special issue. In these special editions, Runners World focuses on one specific issue in the sport of running. They, then, proceed to cover the matter in an in-depth fashion. This is a way of providing runners with a more intensive look at something serious.

Runners World is also about products. Their pages feature slick ads for the usual high-priced cars but, also, provide information on the latest products. A glance through Runners’ World archives provides a glimpse at al the latest innovations of the times. You can discover what was the latest, most up-to-date outfit, watch, or other gadget.

Abundant advertising does not mean you cannot find unbiased information on products and services. In October and May, the magazine provides you with their very helpful Runners World shoe review. This is a helpful guide through the latest offerings of running shoes.

The photography is another positive aspect of the magazine. The magazine attracts excellent photographers. The editors have used the work of Erin Patrice O’Brien in Runners World. It is not unusual to see a Runners World cover by Justin Stephens or an Erin Patrice O’Brien Runners World cover. Runners World cover images include two featuring Masters Runner, Ceci St. Geme.
