Road Runner sports first appeared in 1983 operating out of Michael Gotfredson, the founder’s garage. He set up a small shop in a Del Mar, California, garage to provide runners with quality products from a knowledgeable retailer at reasonable prices. The single employee beginnings ensured quality control and a one-on-one relationship with all the customers.

The small business with its lone employee grew. As the small store sold more products, the merchandise line as well as the employees expanded. Today, there are more than 300 employees working for Road Runner Sports. The store now has several stores in California. These include locations in Anaheim, Concord, Costa Mesa, Laguna Hills, San Carlos, San Diego, Thousand Oaks, Torrance and West Hill. There are also two stores in Washington at Kent and one in Westminster, Colorado.

They continue to have a retail store, publish a catalog and run a successful website. They offer a unique service to their customers from the moment they enter the store. Teamwork, developed from the start of the store, continues to make both the customers and employees a part of the store’s success.
