Running Magazine

Anyone interested in running soon realizes there is more than one running magazine to consult. You can find several different types at your local pharmacy, tobacconist, bookstore or even grocery chain. The areas of interest in these publications differ. In some instances the focus in o a specific type or running, e.g. marathons, trail, fell; in other cases, the magazines are more general, addressing all running sports and types. Some of these magazines are hard copy; other periodicals are located on the net; still other publications operate in both media. You do have, however, some choice in the selection. Furthermore, many general sports magazines have a section devoted to running sports. They may be small or large. Often the amount of material on running a general sports magazine will print, depends upon the time of season and the importance of the event. In a year when the Summer Olympics are being touted, for example, running sports, running stars, pre-trials, important coaches, former Olympic running athletes and all things track and Olympic become important news.

The list of running magazines, while not extensive, is sufficient to provide some choice. One runners’ magazine, Runners World, publishes both on and off the internet. It is a prominent and well- respected running magazine. Runners’ World covers all angles of the runner’s world. It publishes features on specific runners, provides information on training, events and other runners and reviews equipment and running gear. Runners’ World gives its readers all the information it can provide on all aspects of running. It will tell you how to improve your training, prevent injury and prepare for a major race. Runners’ World caters to a broad audience of all types of runners and at all levels of skill and training. You can pick up this magazine in hard copy at a bookstore or any thorough outlet or, conversely, check out their updated version on the net. If you really are a fanatic, sign up for one of the Runners’ World magazine subscriptions offered.

Running Times, like Runners World, is a magazine devoted to the sport of all things running. It will provide you with all sorts of information on training. The magazine writes on plans, provides information and reviews on running shoes and other equipment as well as guides to different events, cities and training camps. It is, like Runners’ World, a general specialist.

Although not precisely a periodical, Runners Gazette, a newspaper, is worth checking out, if you want information on races and material pertinent to the mid-Atlantic area. It prints many features on running, provides a calendar and notes important events in and around the region. Runners Gazette joins several other regional running publications, including Michigan Runner Magazine and the New England Runner adopts the same approach, adapting it to a New England regional crowd.
