Swimming Trunks

Swimming trunks are a common choice made by both men and boys when they decide to wear a swimsuit. Swim trunks provide males with a sense of freedom not common to the tighter or clinging models such as Speedos. Caribbean Joe swim trunks, for example, are loose fitting, providing a carefree image of a beachcomber. You can also purchase large men’s swim trunks and boys swim trunks from Boss and Land’s End. Both Land’s End and Boss sell some of the cool swimming wear, striped, loose and almost board wear. If, however, you want some of the long swimming short or board wear look at Quicksilver shorts and board shorts or check out Oakley swim trunks.

Speedo and Nike offer an excellent selection of boy’s swimming trunks. Nike Swim Flames and Speedo Volley and Pipeline shorts are long, baggy and popular with young boys and teens. Boys swim wear also includes Rusty Indiana and Tyr. Both companies provide volley-type swimming trunks or shorts.

In boys and men’s swim trunks, there is little to differentiate swimwear from shorts. Many shorts are waterproof. They do not become transparent in the water. The new line of swim trunks for men’s wear and boy’s swimming trunks, however, looks more like shorts. You find swimsuits that mimic the shorts worn by NBA players. You see swimming trunks as flowery and flamboyant as Hawaiian vacation shorts. You also notice what appear to be regular shorts in the pool or ocean.

At one point in time, men’s trunks touched to and below the knee. Until 1937 in the United States, men did not and, indeed, could not bare their chests. It was illegal to expose that much flesh on the beach. Swimsuits for men and boys covered much of their body. The outfits of wool dragged down swimmers in the water and weighed infinitely more than swimming trunks do today. Favored colors were black and stripped patterns prevailed. It was as rare then, as it is today, to find someone in white swim trunks. If white trunks appear on a beach, today, they are usually almost knee-length and bear a logo.

A swim trunk and swim shorts are a product of the 1940s. These outfits came in solid colors. Not until the 1950s did color make an appearance. Swim trunks of this era were loud with zebra stripes and pony prints. Cabana sets matched the trunks with a shirt to provide an overall integrated is loud effect. Today you can purchase loud patterns and quiet solids. Adidas will give you a tighter trunk while Brazilian swimsuits are both long and short.
