Swimming is a healthy, invigorating sport. People have taken to the water in many different cultures for different reasons. Swimming, however, has not been embraced as a sport and as recreation until modern times. Victorian society saw bathing in the waters as healthy, yet they did not encourage swimming for the so-called “weaker sex.” Males swam in the ocean; women walked through the waves. It was not until the dawning of the 20th century that swimming actually became a popular activity for both genders. Male and female swimmers took to the oceans, seas and lakes. Their clothes weighed them down, but they could and did swim.

Today, swimming is an integral part of summertime recreation. Swimming clipart keeps alive its popularity in the computer age. It is gaining a strong following with the American public for a number of reasons. Swimming, compared to many sports, is inexpensive. All you need is a swimsuit, a cap and maybe goggles. You do not have to join a swim club, such as the Denver Swim Club, to enjoy the sport. Age and gender do not matter.

Swimming is an ideal sport suited to everyone. Doctors recommend swimming as a way to alleviate stress, improve your health and look and feel better. Actually, swimming is one of the best all-around forms of exercise. Doctors and therapists even recommend swimming for individuals with sports injuries. The water is an excellent recuperative aid. You may swim in a spa or a public pool, but the effects will be the same. People swimming do not place stress upon the connective tissues while they exercise all their muscles. Of all sports, swimming is easiest on the joints and tendons.

As a regular exercise, it can help keep you healthy and increase your life span. You do not need to be swimming with the dolphins in Mexico, Hawaii or New Zealand, to feel at peace. If you swim with the dolphins, you are simply enhancing an already relaxing experience.
